Phones in School

At the July 8th School Board meeting, the Alpine School Board approved revisions to Policy No. 5250 | Electronic Communication Devices These changes were made in response to Utah Senate Bill 178, passed earlier this year, which limits student use of electronic communication devices during school hours.

Key Policy Changes by Grade Level:

  • Elementary School: Students must keep phones and other communication devices in their backpacks from the first bell to the last bell.

  • Middle School: Devices may be used only during lunch and must remain in backpacks at all other times.

  • High School: Students may use devices between classes and during lunch, but not during instructional time.

Each school, in collaboration with its School Community Council, may choose to implement stricter guidelines than those outlined in the district policy.

I’d love to know what parents and teachers think of this new policy. What changes if any would you like to see made?
